Malaysia Seeks UAE's AI Expertise for Mutual Technological Advancements

Malaysia is eagerly seeking to harness the advanced artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to propel its own technological advancements. Datuk Seri Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, the Malaysian ambassador to the UAE, emphasized Malaysia's interest in learning from the UAE's expertise in AI during the World Government Summit (WGS 2024). Recognizing the UAE's significant strides in AI development, Ahmad Fadil highlighted the potential for collaboration between the two nations, aiming for mutual benefits.

With Malaysia's ambitious goals in renewable energy and data management, there is a ripe opportunity for collaboration in these sectors as well. Ahmad Fadil underscored Malaysia's potential in renewable energy and data management and emphasized the need to tap into collaborations with leading entities in the country for mutual benefits in AI. This aligns with Malaysia's recent efforts, including Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's visit to the Masdar City office and the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) in October, signaling a clear intent to bolster cooperation in renewable energy and AI.

Furthermore, recent developments such as the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between Malaysia's Investment, Trade, and Industry Ministry (Miti) and the UAE's Investment Ministry underscore a strategic commitment to advancing investment cooperation in the digital infrastructure sector. The MOU paves the way for the development of data centers in Malaysia, with potential projects anticipated to achieve a total capacity of 500 megawatts. These initiatives underscore the growing partnership between Malaysia and the UAE, with the UAE being Malaysia’s second-largest trading partner and a key collaborator in advancing technological innovation and economic growth.
