Masdar Consortium Secures $1 Billion Bid for Saudi Solar Plant

  Abu Dhabi's Masdar consortium, in partnership with France's EDF Renewables and Saudi conglomerate Nesma Company, has successfully won a bid to develop and operate a massive $1 billion solar plant in Saudi Arabia. The agreement includes a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC ), allowing them to construct and manage a 1,100-megawatt solar facility. This plant is expected to power over 190,000 homes annually and significantly reduce carbon emissions by displacing more than 1.8 million tonnes of carbon dioxide each year. The Al Henakiyah solar power plant was awarded to the consortium due to their highly competitive bid of $16.84 per megawatt-hour, demonstrating their commitment to making renewable energy more accessible and sustainable.
