UAE’s Commitment to Helping Refugee Women

The United Arab Emirates has recently taken important steps to support women who are refugees from Sudan living in Chad With a contribution of USD 10.25 million to the United Nations the UAE aims to provide essential aid to these women who are among the most affected by the ongoing conflict in their home country This initiative reflects the UAE's commitment to humanitarian efforts and its focus on vulnerable populations particularly women and children.

The announcement came during a visit by Her Excellency Lana Nusseibeh who is part of the UAE foreign affairs team During her trip to Chad she met with Sudanese refugees and local leaders to understand their needs better This face to face interaction is crucial as it allows for a deeper understanding of the challenges these women face daily By listening to their stories the UAE can tailor its support to be more effective and relevant.

Much of the funding will be directed to programs that specifically focus on women health and safety For instance USD 3 million will support maternal and child health services helping ensure that refugee women receive the medical care they need Additionally funding will go to initiatives aimed at preventing sexual and gender based violence which is a significant concern for many refugee women This targeted approach is essential for addressing the unique challenges faced by women in conflict situations.

Chad has become a significant host country for Sudanese refugees, with many fleeing the violence and instability in Sudan Since April 2023 over 63000 refugees have registered in Chad with a large percentage being women and children The UAE recognizes the efforts of the Chadian government in providing refuge and safety for these vulnerable groups By supporting Chad humanitarian efforts the UAE is playing a vital role in addressing the needs of those affected by the crisis.

The UAE commitment to supporting refugee women in Chad is a positive step toward alleviating suffering caused by conflict By prioritizing health safety and empowerment the UAE is not only providing immediate relief but also contributing to long term stability in the region This initiative serves as a reminder of the importance of international cooperation in addressing humanitarian crises and the need to focus on the specific needs of women and children in these difficult situations.
