UAE’s Pioneering Role in Sudan Crisis: Advocating for Ceasefire and Humanitarian Relief

Lana Nusseibeh, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Envoy of Minister of Foreign Affairs, has appealed for an immediate ceasefire in Sudan, emphasizing the urgent necessity of humanitarian assistance and a civilian-led political transition. Nusseibeh spoke against using food supplies as a weapon during the interview she gave to CNNConnect, and noted how important it is that international humanitarian laws are employed if we are going to secure peace within Sudan. Nusseibeh underscored the UAE’s commitment to fostering peace and stability in Sudan, urging the warring parties to engage in talks and listen to the civilian population’s aspirations. In addition, her remarks addressed the broader regional implications of the conflict by indicating that Sudan’s instability had the potential to make revolutionary refugee movements in other countries impossible. It would also have an effect on regional security in the Middle East.

The $30 million donation from the United Arab Emirates to support the UNHCR’s humanitarian activities in Sudan and in the countries around it is a demonstration of their focus on emergency humanitarian issues. In the context of a larger funding of $70 million, this one is indicative of the commitment that the country has towards ending pain and bringing peace within these boundaries. In the last ten years, UAE has given more than $ 3.5 billion in total assistance to Sudan which shows their commitment over time of helping the people from Sudan. The role that UAE plays by its proposal for cessation of hostilities as well as resumption of political dialogue symbolizes not only an example on how other countries should be involved but also signifies if the crises in Sudan are to be overcome; it requires cooperation together with unity globally. For a peaceful and prosperous future in Sudan, it is vital that the world acknowledges and endorses such initiatives.
