UAE's Diplomatic Leadership: Paving the Way for a Peaceful World

A symbol of hope is the UAE’s involvement in solving the problem of exchanging 180 prisoners between Russia and Ukraine, who live in a world where there are countless conflicts. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ 2024 announcement about the fifth successful mediation shows that UAE is indeed in a position of being a dependable go-between between these two countries. The active use of dialogue, de-escalation and diplomacy as key instruments used in conflict resolution bestows upon them a proactive peacebuilding approach. Seeing the United Arabs Emirate still striving to bring about peaceful resolutions in a world full of crises makes me more hopeful that someday leaders similar to United Arabs Emirate will encourage more dialogs and cooperation leading to a peaceful world.

Exchanging war captives between Russia and Ukraine on various occasions already this year and facilitating swaps of POWs between Russia and the US in the past are among many good deeds done by the UAE.  The UAE’s commitment to humanitarian principles is clearly demonstrated by these achievements as well as their diplomatic expertise in negotiating difficult geopolitical terrains. When we think of the way that UAE leads in mediation, what comes to mind is a framework used by diplomats worldwide where dialogue and not conflict is important, as they aim to find resolution of misunderstandings so that peace remains maintained and people live well everywhere.
