ADNOC Hosts US Energy Secretary to Advance Clean Energy Partnership

 




Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Managing Director and Group CEO of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), welcomed United States Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm at ADNOC’s headquarters today.  Talks also focused on the game-changing prospects of utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) in the energy field, highlighting the innovative way in which ADNOC integrates AI technologies to improve safety, cut down emission levels, as well as enhance operational effectiveness.

 

During her visit, Secretary Granholm was taken on a tour of ADNOC's Panorama Digital Command Centre. It was here that she got a first-hand observation of the company’s AI-driven initiatives. During the meeting, Dr. Al Jaber reaffirmed the strong, close and longstanding economic, energy and trade relationship between the UAE and the US. Dr. Al Jaber and Secretary Granholm discussed the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) as well as the need for greater collaboration to ensure a secure, reliable, and responsible supply of energy.

This substantial investment aims to bridge existing gaps in climate finance and stimulate private contributions, with the overall target reaching $250 billion by 2030. President bin Zayed emphasized the critical need for accessible and affordable climate finance, citing the newly established UAE fund named Alterra as a strategic initiative to facilitate this. The fund's allocation includes $25 billion to attract institutional capital for large-scale climate investments and an additional $5 billion for risk mitigation capital, encouraging investment flows into developing countries. The Alterra fund sets an ambitious goal of stimulating around $250 billion in investments by the end of the decade, focusing on initiatives that drive the transition to green energy

China and UAE to Deepen Cooperation in Strategic Areas

  China and the United Arab Emirates have agreed to deepen their cooperation in strategic areas, including development strategies, investment, and climate change. The two ministers agreed to take the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries next year as an opportunity to further consolidate the traditional friendship between their people. They also agreed to implement the important outcomes of the first China-Arab States Summit and the China-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit, and to strive for reaching an agreement on the China-GCC free trade agreement as soon as possible. This is a strategic move by both countries. It's good to see them working together to achieve common goals as there's a lot of potential for both countries to benefit.
