Pakistan and UAE to Cooperate on Cargo Terminal Development

The Pakistani government has authorized negotiations on a framework agreement with the United Arab Emirates for the development of a bulk and general cargo terminal at East Wharf, Karachi PortTrust (KPT).

The agreement, which is still in the early stages of development, would see the UAE's AD Port Group invest in the construction and operation of the terminal. The project is expected to cost around $1 billion and is expected to create thousands of jobs in Pakistan, both during construction and after the terminal is operational. This will be a welcome boost to the country's economy, which is currently facing challenges.

In addition to the economic and environmental benefits, the development of the cargo terminal could also have a number of other positive impacts. For example, it could help to improve the connectivity of Karachi Port with other ports in the region, which could lead to increased trade and investment. It could also help to create a more efficient and competitive port sector in Pakistan, which could benefit businesses and consumers alike.

Overall, the development of the cargo terminal in Karachi is a positive development with the potential to bring a number of benefits to Pakistan and the UAE.
